Browsing Products
Learn how to effectively navigate and discover data products in the catalog.
Catalog Layout
When you navigate to the Data Catalog, you'll see a cohesive interface designed for discovery. The Header contains the search bar and action buttons, while the Filter Sidebar offers tag-based filtering options. The main content area features the Product Grid, displaying cards for each data product, with Pagination Controls at the bottom to load more results as needed.
Searching
Quick Search
The search bar at the top of the catalog filters products in real-time. As you type your search query, the results filter automatically. Matches are found across product names, descriptions, and slugs.
Use the global search (⌘K) for instant access to any product from anywhere in the platform.
Advanced Search Patterns
The search engine supports advanced patterns for precision. It allows for partial matches (e.g., "customer" finds "customer_data"), is case-insensitive ("ORDERS" matches "orders"), and treats multiple terms as independent matches (space-separated words).
Filtering by Tags
Tags provide business-oriented categorization for data products.
Using Tag Filters
To use tag filters, look at the Tags section in the filter sidebar. Click on a tag to filter products by that category. You can select multiple tags to show products that match all selected criteria. Clicking a tag again removes it from the filter.
Common Tag Categories
Organizations typically use tags for Domains (Marketing, Finance, Sales), Data Types (Customer, Transaction, Reference), Sensitivity levels (Public, Internal, Confidential), and Status indicators (Production, Development, Deprecated).
Personalized Tag Filters
You can configure your preferred tags to always appear at the top of the filter panel. Go to Settings > Preferences and select your Preferred Catalog Tags per space. Once saved, your pinned tags will appear first in the filter sidebar for quick access.
Filtering by Type
Data products are categorized by type (Table, View, Dashboard, etc.), which are configured at the space level. Each type is represented by a unique icon and color in the catalog. Clicking a type filter will immediately refine the grid to show only products of that category.
Quality Score Filtering
If quality monitoring is enabled, you can filter products based on their data health. By setting a minimum quality threshold, products falling below that score will be hidden. This is particularly useful for finding reliable, high-quality data assets for your analysis.
Sorting
You can order the catalog results to suit your needs. Options include sorting by Name (A-Z) for alphabetical order, Name (Z-A) for reverse alphabetical, Quality Score to see highest quality items first, or Recently Updated to find the most recently modified assets.
Viewing Archived Products
By default, archived products are hidden to keep the catalog clean. To view them, locate the Show Archived toggle in the filter area and enable it. Archived products will then appear in the grid with reduced opacity. This is useful for restoring previously archived products, referencing historical assets, or auditing the full product inventory.
Product Cards
Card Content
Each product card in the grid displays key information at a glance, including the Product Name, a Type Icon for visual identification, a brief Description (truncated if necessary), Tags for categorization, and a Quality Indicator if health status is available.
Card Actions
Clicking anywhere on the card will open the full product detail page. Hovering over a card may reveal additional quick actions depending on your permissions.
Progressive Loading
For spaces with many products, the catalog uses progressive loading. The initial load fetches the first batch of products (typically 100), and the item counter updates to show the number of products currently displayed. Clicking Load More retrieves the next batch, appending them to the list so you don't lose your place. This ensures the interface remains responsive even with thousands of items.
Keyboard Navigation
Within the catalog, you can use Tab to navigate between cards and press Enter to open the focused product. For faster global discovery, use ⌘K to jump directly to the global search overlay.
