Understanding Spaces
Spaces are the fundamental organizational unit in Qarion. They provide isolated workspaces for teams, departments, or business domains to manage their data governance activities.
What is a Space?
A Space is a self-contained environment that serves as a dedicated workspace for a specific team or data domain, such as "Marketing Analytics" or "Finance Data". It acts as a container for your Data Products (catalog assets), Quality Checks (monitoring rules), Issues (tracked problems), Contracts (SLA agreements), Meetings (governance sessions), and Team Members.
Switching Between Spaces
If you have access to multiple spaces, you can switch contexts using the Space Selector in the left sidebar. Click on the current space name and select a different space from the dropdown menu. The entire interface will update to show the content from your newly selected space.
Your permissions may vary between spaces. You might be an administrator in one space but only have viewer access in another.
Space Roles
Users can have different roles within a space. Space Admins have full access to all settings, members, and content. Editors can create and modify products, checks, and issues, while Viewers can browse content but cannot make changes. Members have basic access to space resources.
Product-Level Roles
In addition to space-level roles, individual data products can have specific governance assignments. The Owner is the primary responsible party, the Steward handles day-to-day maintenance and curation, the Custodian serves as the technical guardian of data quality and access, and the Data Architect designs data models and defines architectural standards.
Multi-Space Access
Many users work across multiple spaces. Here's how to stay organized:
Space Isolation
Content in one space is strictly isolated from others. Products, issues, and meetings only appear within their own space, and search results are similarly scoped. If you try to navigate to a link from a different space, the platform will prompt you to switch contexts.
Context Awareness
The platform helps you stay oriented by always displaying the current space name in the sidebar. Breadcrumbs also indicate your current location within the space hierarchy, ensuring you always know which context you are working in.
Getting Added to a Space
If you need access to a space you don't currently have, contact the Space Administrator. They can add you through the space's Team Management settings and assign the appropriate role. For organization-wide access management, contact your Qarion platform administrator.
