Comments & Discussions

Learn how to use comments and @mentions to collaborate with your team across the platform.

Overview

Qarion provides a unified commenting system that works across all major entities. You can discuss Data Products to clarify data quality or documentation, coordinate on Issues to resolve problems, and communicate on Access Requests during approval workflows.

Using Comments

Adding a Comment

To add a comment, navigate to any product, issue, or access request and scroll to the Discussion section. Type your message in the text area and click Post or press Cmd+Enter. Comments support Markdown formatting, allowing you to use bold, italic, strikethrough, code blocks, inline code, links, and lists.

Replying to Comments

Click the Reply button on any comment to create a threaded response. This keeps related discussions organized and easy to follow.

@Mentions

Mention team members to notify them and draw their attention to a discussion.

How to Mention Someone

Type @ followed by the person's username, select them from the autocomplete dropdown, and post your comment.

Example:

@alice.johnson can you review this change?

Notification Behavior

When mentioned, the user receives an in-app notification linking directly to the comment. If enabled in their preferences, they will also receive an email notification.

Comments on Products

Product comments appear in the Discussion tab on the product detail page. Use them to ask questions about data meaning, suggest improvements to documentation, flag data quality concerns, or coordinate with data owners.

Comments on Issues

Issue comments provide a timeline of investigation and resolution activities. Use them to share investigation findings, request input from team members, document resolution steps, or link to related resources.

Comments on Access Requests

Access request comments facilitate communication between requesters and approvers. They are useful for explaining the business need, asking clarifying questions, providing justification for approval, or requesting additional information.

Best Practices

Be specific in your comments by referencing field names, dates, or examples. Use mentions wisely, notifying only the people who need to act. Keep it professional as comments are visible to the team, and always follow up to resolve threads when questions are answered.
